YOGA BASICS WORKSHOP R400,

Yoga Basics is where postures are introduced  and explored in a slow vinyasa format.  Emphasis is placed on correct alignment and form, and on the foundation of a vinyasa practice –
how to breathe and how breathing can help cultivate ease and grace in your practice. It is suitable for complete beginners as well as intermediate/advanced students.
Hylton has over 20 years experience as a yoga instructor and all levels will benefit.  Monthly students may attend for free.   Drop in is R108

LAUGHTER YOGA with Sylvester Gasana

To face his own life challenges, Sylvester Gasana embraced meditation and a spiritual journey. He then joined laughter yoga for health reasons… to get fit, fight stress, lighten up and spread joy. Sylvester then trained as a Laughter Yoga coach and he leads sessions all over Cape Town. He believes laughter is the best medicine because of the improved blood pressure, increased oxygen into the bloodstream, release of endorphins, improved immune system function, and relief from stress.
Sylvester’s mission is to make everyone experience the benefits of real laughter. Experience how you feel Energised, Positive and Happier. And to your family, friends and work colleagues… you become a gift of laughter.

Weekend Iyengar Practice with David Jacobs

We welcome David back for another exciting weekend of Iyengar yoga practice! If you missed it the last time, take this opportunity to gift yourself with this deepening of your yoga practice. Workshop content will build one day on the next, so that at the end of the two days students will have a thorough, in-depth understanding of the fascinating complexities of this system – from an asana, Pranayama and philosophical perspective. When taught and practiced correctly, Iyengar Yoga is not only meditative but also physically challenging and ideally tailored for all fitness levels and for everyone who wants a vigorous yoga practice. The intensity and variety of postures will revitalize the whole body, reduce stress levels and keep you in peak condition. Iyengar Yoga is an innovative and inspired approach to the classical Eastern discipline particularly relevant to our Western culture.

David Jacobs is an Iyengar Yoga teacher (Senior Intermediate III, certification by B.K.S.Iyengar, one of only 5 senior certified teachers in South Africa) with a diploma in physical education. David has dedicated his life to studying the art and science of yoga.

STRESS MANAGEMENT HEALING TOOLBOX with Candice Jones

Candice will safely guide a soothing asana sequence with emphasis placed on the Emotional Body, accessing and moving feelings that are heavy, out of the Physical Body. With revitalising pranayama practise, self-massage techniques and Yoga Nidra; you will release the stress caused by modern-day overload. Basic postural adjustments will be investigated to prevent future build-up of tension. This is an opportunity to implement changes into your world. Yogic breathing with guided asana, is the key principle of this technique of moving meditation. Breathe and stretch yourself through stress, trauma or shock. Take steps to clear your  mind of useless clutter. ‘Yoga chitta vritti nirodha’
Candice is a yoga teacher and Reiki Master, and specialises in postural alignment and emotional balance.
 
 
YOGA NIDRA Workshop with Jacqueline Ivory

Dive into the unconscious mind with Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra – yogic sleep – is a meditative deep relaxation.  It releases tension from the body, emotions and mind and prepares us for deeper states of meditation. This is a guided practice that is done while lying still in savasana, making it accessible to all ages and levels of fitness. We will explore the 8 steps of the practice to give an understanding of the process that one goes through to reach the state of Yoga Nidra. This will be followed by some physical yoga and completed with a  40 min Yoga Nidra session.

Spend a rejuvenating weekend with Hylton as he leads you into a dynamic system of practicing asana, linking breath to movement… building heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and concentration. On this retreat you will have the opportunity to take your practice, whether you are a beginner or advanced yoga student, to a stronger more flexible level, with a greater and gentler understanding of your body’s needs and capabilities. The morning classes will be energising and revitalising, the evening classes deeply restorative, with postures to rest and soothe your entire being. You will be guided into a sense of wellbeing and new found confidence in your yoga practice, and Hylton’s creative sequencing will leave you feeling radiant and rejuvenated. The retreat takes place at Koudeberg Retreat Centre on Farm 215, a beautiful unspoilt sustainable destination in the Uilkraal Valley between Stanford and Cape Agulhas in the Western Cape’s unspoiled Southern Overberg. 
 
 
LIVING INSIDE OUT with Atma Kaur

 Within each of us lives the wisest teacher of all, our Guru Dev, or divine teacher. How do we begin to tap into this inner guidance, to trust it to the point that it starts to make a difference in our daily lives? Kundalini yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan is an ancient art and technology, as valid today as it was thousands of years ago. Atma joins us from her retreat centre “Little Samadhi” in Barrydale to share these teachings with us, where you’ll discover some of the techniques that give us the experience of our soul’s journey and the tools that assist us on our way.
 
 
MINDFULNESS MEDITATION with Linda Kantor : 14th July : 3 – 5pm : R200

“Peace is present right here and now, in ourselves and in everything we do and see. The question is whether or not we are in touch with it. We don’t have to travel far away to enjoy the blue sky….even the air we breathe can be a source of joy” Thich Nhat Hahn.
Mindfulness is a capacity that we all possess and can cultivate. So often we in our lives we are on autopilot. Taking time to become more present can allow us to move through our lives with more of a sense of rest and enjoyment. We begin to discover the extraordinarily precious nature of every moment.
Please join psychologist and yoga teacher Linda Kantor for a monthly mindfulness yoga and meditation session. Open to individuals at any level of yoga practice these sessions are geared towards deepening mindfulness practice and cultivating compassion to self.
Linda Kantor has been a psychologist in private practice for the  since 1994. She is also the co-director of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Programme, based at Cape Town Medi-Clinic. She teaches mindfulness in a variety of contexts including the GSB. Linda is also a Kundalini Yoga Teacher and has found yoga to be highly effective in guiding people towards their inner wisdom, strength and peace.

 

 

 

 

 

Weekend Iyengar Practice with David Jacobs 28th & 29th July

An Iyengar Yoga teacher (Senior Intermediate III, certification by B.K.S.Iyengar, one of only 5 senior certified teachers in South Africa) with a diploma in physical education, David Jacobs has dedicated his life to studying the art and science of yoga. David has been practicing for yoga for 25 years and teaching for 20 years . He has travelled to Pune, India to study under BKS Iyengar and his daughter Geeta, first in 1994 and then several annual visits thereafter. These were the first yoga classes where he saw where the technique was able to embody the philosophy.
David was the founder of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Centre, Cape Town in South Africa and he now runs the BKS Iyengar Yoga Centre, Oudtshoorn, Klein Karoo, South Africa.  David no longer teaches public classes, in order to focus more deeply on his own practice. This allows him time to teach workshops around Southern Africa as well as Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Norway and Switzerland. David is also part of the BKS Iyengar Institute’s teachers training programme.
David has experience in teaching classes for those with injuries and medical conditions, beginner’s courses, general and experience level classes. He teaches teachers and conducts workshops for teachers. He is passionately involved with the practice of yoga and its applications to daily life. His understanding of and insights into Iyengar Yoga are conveyed with authenticity and precision.
 
 

YOGA DANCE with Marlena Ardendorff : 9th June : 12 – 2pm : R200
Join us for a unique new yoga-dance experience.
Taught by Marlena Adendorff, international teacher, choreographer, dancer and yoga practitioner, with 30 years’ experience in movement forms.  In this YogaDance workshop you will experience the transition of your asanas into flowing movements, expanding into dance. Stepping and rolling gently off your mat into a whole new world. Connecting your body, mind and soul with the rhythm of your breath. It’s time to spread your wings and fly off your mats, while never losing sight of your base, your yoga training, and that which is familiar to you. Come and move in this gentle safe place.
